Fur, Feathers and Foliage
Christy's work begins outdoors through direct observation, plant gathering, and nature journaling. Foliage collected from the landscape is eco-printed onto silk through a steaming process, allowing plants to leave their own natural impressions. Wildlife–quail, fox, rabbit, bear, mountain lions and other species emerge, painted into these environments, creating compositions that reflect the quiet relationships between animals, plants, and habitat. Through this process, the landscape itself becomes an active participant in the creation of the artwork.
The work invites viewers to slow down and observe the subtle patterns, textures, and life forms that exist within natural environments. Many of the plants and species depicted occur throughout the ecosystems of the American West, including California, emphasizing the shared ecological threads that connect these landscapes.
By combining direct botanical impressions with painted imagery, the exhibition celebrates both the artistry of nature and the importance of observing and protecting the living world around us.
